Do I need planning permission for solar panels on a holiday let?
Most solar panel installations on holiday lets and Airbnbs fall under permitted development rights, meaning no planning permission is required. Exceptions apply to listed buildings, conservation areas, and some Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Cornwall has several AONBs, so we carry out a planning check as part of every free survey. Where permitted development applies, installation can proceed without any application.

Yes. The 0% VAT rate on solar panel systems and battery storage applies to all residential properties, including holiday lets and short-term rental properties. This applies to the supply and installation of panels, batteries, and associated equipment.
