The Challenge
The property had solid Cornish stone walls with limited insulation, a mix of original and replacement radiators, and a small rear yard for the outdoor unit. Conservation area considerations applied to the positioning of the outdoor unit.
Our Solution
We designed a system around the existing radiators where possible, upsizing just four that were undersized for low-temperature operation. The outdoor unit was carefully positioned to meet noise regulations and permitted development requirements. A new 250-litre Vaillant cylinder replaced the existing unvented system.
The Outcome
The system has been running since February 2026. The customer reports heating bills approximately 35% lower than with their previous gas boiler, helped by switching to an off-peak electricity tariff overnight. They have also installed solar panels — linked to the heat pump controls — since the original installation.
