The Challenge
The property was heated by oil with a mix of older large radiators and a warm-air unit in the main living area. The traditional stone construction meant higher heat loss than a modern property, requiring careful system design to ensure comfort in all weather.
Our Solution
A detailed heat loss assessment showed that the existing radiators were largely adequate at the lower flow temperatures required, with two needing replacement. We replaced the oil boiler, oil tank controls, and installed the 12 kW Mitsubishi Ecodan with a new 300-litre cylinder.
The Outcome
The customer has seen their annual heating costs fall from approximately £2,400 on oil to an estimated £1,400 on the heat pump — a saving of £1,000 per year. They are now exploring solar panels to power the heat pump during daylight hours.
