Boiler Service Truro

An annual boiler service in Truro — gas, oil or LPG — from Gas Safe and OFTEC registered engineers based eight miles away at Pool. We cover TR1, TR3 and TR4, carry out landlord gas safety checks, and give you the readings rather than a tick in a box.

Eight miles, one road

Truro sits eight miles from our workshop at Pool Business Park, between Redruth and Camborne — the A390 and you are there. That distance is the whole argument for using a Cornwall firm for something as routine as an annual service. A national cover plan dispatches whoever is free; a comparison site sells your enquiry to whoever bought the postcode that month. We send the same engineers to TR1, TR3 and TR4 week in, week out, and the engineer who services your boiler this year is the one who knows what it was doing last year.

We cover the city and the parishes around it: Kenwyn, Highertown, Tregolls, Hendra and Trelander in town, out through Threemilestone and Shortlanesend, and down the Fal into the TR3 villages. For the rest of the county, see boiler servicing Cornwall.

Gas in the city, oil in the villages

Truro is one of the better-connected parts of Cornwall for mains gas, so most city services are gas appliances. Step outside the TR1 postcode and that changes quickly: a large share of homes in the TR3 and TR4 villages have no gas connection at all and run on oil or LPG, which is a different service with different competencies behind it.

It matters when you book, because an engineer registered for one fuel cannot sign off the other. Our team is Gas Safe registered for natural gas and LPG and OFTEC registered for oil, so one visit covers whichever you have. On oil that means the nozzle and filter changed, combustion set to the manufacturer's figures with an analyser, and the tank, supply line and fire valve inspected — a tank that has started to sweat or a fire valve that has stopped moving is the sort of thing an appliance-only service never looks at.

Landlord certificates for Truro lets

If you let a property in Truro, the annual gas safety check is a legal duty under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, not a recommendation — the full duty, including the 28-day record rule and the two-year retention, is set out on our Cornwall boiler servicing page. What is worth saying here is the practical side, because most Truro certificates we issue are for flats and conversions rather than houses:

  • Every appliance you provide, not just the boiler. A gas hob or a gas fire left in a let flat is on the certificate too.
  • Access is the thing that fails, not the boiler. Give us the tenant's details and we arrange the appointment directly; a certificate that lapses because nobody could get in is still a lapsed certificate.
  • Multiple flats, one visit. If you hold several units in the same Truro building, book them together and the engineer works through them in one trip.
  • Check and service are not the same thing. The safety check is the legal minimum; the service is what keeps the manufacturer's warranty alive. We normally do both in the same visit and tell you plainly which you are paying for.

Period property in the conservation area

A routine service changes nothing outside the building, so a listed address makes no difference to the visit itself. It makes a great deal of difference the moment a service turns into a repair or a replacement. Truro's conservation area takes in the historic city centre including Lemon Street, and there are listed buildings there and in Ferris Town. On those properties a new flue position, an external condensate run or a replacement tank is a consent question before it is an installation question.

We would rather tell you that at the service, with the boiler still running, than in a January breakdown when the only quick answer is an expensive one. If your Truro property is heading that way, boiler installation in Truro covers the replacement options, and the new-build plots at Langarth Garden Village are a reminder of the other end of the scale — modern systems whose warranties depend entirely on the annual service record.

What it costs, and why we do not publish a headline price

Because a headline price is almost always the wrong one. A gas combi service in a Highertown semi, an oil boiler and cylinder in a TR4 farmhouse, and a three-appliance landlord certificate in a city-centre conversion are three different jobs, and a figure that covers all three either overcharges the first or disappoints the third once the engineer arrives. Tell us the fuel, the appliance and the postcode and you get the real number before anyone sets off.

Boiler service Truro FAQs

01
How much is a boiler service in Truro?
We quote per property rather than advertise a headline figure, because the job genuinely differs: a gas combi in a Highertown semi is not the same visit as an oil boiler with a separate cylinder in a TR4 village, and a landlord certificate covering several appliances in a let flat is different again. Tell us the fuel, the appliance and the postcode when you book and you will have a price before an engineer is on the drive.
02
How quickly can you get to a Truro breakdown?
Truro is eight miles from our base at Pool Business Park, between Redruth and Camborne — one of the shortest runs on our patch, and the A390 is the whole journey. We cover TR1, TR3 and TR4 as local work rather than as an out-of-area call, which is the practical difference between a Cornwall firm and a national cover plan dispatching whoever is free that day.
03
Do you service oil boilers in the villages around Truro?
Yes. Central Truro is largely on the mains gas network, but the TR3 and TR4 villages around it frequently are not, and oil is the common alternative. Our engineers are OFTEC registered for oil as well as Gas Safe for gas, so an oil service covers the nozzle and filter, combustion set to the manufacturer figures, and the tank, supply line and fire valve — not just the appliance.
04
Will a boiler service in a listed Truro property need anything extra?
A routine service does not, because nothing changes outside. It matters when a service turns into a repair or a replacement: Truro conservation area covers the historic centre including Lemon Street, and there are listed buildings there and in Ferris Town, where a new flue position or an external pipe run is a planning and listed building consent question rather than an installer decision. We flag that at the service visit rather than at the quote stage.
