OCPP
Open Charge Point Protocol — the open standard for communication between EV chargers and back-office management software, key for commercial chargepoint operators.
OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is the de-facto open standard, maintained by the Open Charge Alliance, for communication between EV chargepoints and back-office software. Versions 1.6 and 2.0.1 are both in widespread use.
OCPP matters for commercial chargepoint operators because it lets you mix and match charger hardware with software platforms. A Cornwall holiday park might install a mix of EO Genius 2 and Project EV Pro Earth chargers and manage them all from a single Monta, AMPECO, ChargePoint or Joosup back-office.
For residential users, OCPP is invisible — your home charger talks to its own app and that is enough. For commercial sites with public-facing or paid charging, insist on OCPP 1.6+ compliance to avoid vendor lock-in. See our commercial EV charging page.
