Feed-in Tariff (FiT) — legacy
The closed-to-new-applicants generation tariff that paid solar owners between 2010 and 2019 for every kWh generated, regardless of use.
The Feed-in Tariff (FiT) closed to new applications on 31 March 2019. It paid two tariffs: a generation tariff for every kWh produced (regardless of where the energy went) and an export tariff (typically 50% deemed export) for exported energy.
Existing FiT claimants continue to receive payments for 20 or 25 years from accreditation, with annual RPI uplifts. Cornwall has tens of thousands of FiT installs from the early-2010s rooftop boom — many on rates of 30-43p/kWh, making them remarkably valuable contracts.
If you own an FiT system, two important considerations: (1) replacement panels or inverter generally do not invalidate your tariff, but always check with your FiT licensee before any change, and (2) adding a battery is allowed but the AC-coupled topology is safer if you want to preserve the 50% deemed export. CCS can service or upgrade legacy FiT systems — see our solar page.
