OFTEC
The Oil Firing Technical Association — registers engineers competent to install and service oil-fired boilers, AGAs and tanks. Critical in off-gas-grid Cornwall.
OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) is the trade body and competent person scheme for oil-fired heating in the UK and Ireland. OFTEC registration is the equivalent of Gas Safe for oil — required for installing, commissioning or servicing oil boilers (Worcester Greenstar Heatslave, Grant VortexBlue, Firebird Enviromax, etc.), oil tanks and oil AGAs.
For Cornwall, OFTEC matters enormously: roughly 35-40% of homes are heated by oil, particularly in rural West Cornwall, on the Lizard, around Bodmin Moor and across the North Cornwall coast. Most oil boilers we service in 2026 are 15-25 years old and approaching end of life, perfect candidates for heat pump replacement under the BUS grant.
CCS engineers hold OFTEC certificates for all common oil work — installation, servicing, decommissioning and tank replacement. We routinely decommission oil systems as part of heat pump installs in Cornwall. See our oil boiler page.
