Tethered (EV charger)
An EV charger with a permanently attached cable, typically 5-7m long, terminating in a Type 2 plug.
A tethered EV charger has the charging cable permanently attached to the unit. Typical cable lengths are 5m or 7.5m, terminating in a Type 2 plug that you simply connect to the car. Examples include Ohme ePod, Hypervolt Home 3.0 (tethered variant), Easee Up, and Wallbox Pulsar Plus.
Pros of tethered: never leave the cable behind, no risk of cable theft from a car boot, easier and faster to use day-to-day (especially in rain). Cons: the cable lives outside year-round (so look for IP54+ ratings), it limits flexibility if you ever change to a car with the connector on the opposite side, and replacement when worn is more expensive.
For most Cornwall driveway installs, we recommend tethered for daily-use simplicity. For shared driveways or households with multiple EV brands, untethered is more flexible. See our EV charger installation page.
