Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)
A bidirectional charging mode where the EV battery exports power to the public grid in response to smart tariff signals or DNO demand response.
V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) is V2H taken further: rather than just powering your own home, the EV battery exports to the public grid when wholesale prices spike. Octopus Powerloop and Indra's V2G trial have demonstrated typical earnings of £400-800/year per vehicle.
Technical requirements are the same as V2H plus a G99 grid-tied bidirectional charger and DNO approval. National Grid has been working through the framework and as of 2026 V2G is still primarily available via specific tariffs and pilot programmes rather than as a mainstream offering.
For Cornwall customers interested in V2G, the most viable route in 2026 is via Sigenergy or Wallbox Quasar paired with Octopus Powerloop or Octopus Flux. CCS handles the DNO G99 application as part of the install. See our EV charging page.
