HIES

Home Insulation & Energy Systems Contractors Scheme — a consumer protection body for renewable energy installers, alongside RECC.

HIES (Home Insulation & Energy Systems Contractors Scheme) is one of the two consumer code bodies for renewable installers (the other being RECC). MCS certification requires installers to belong to one of them.

HIES provides: pre-contractual code of conduct, complaints handling and arbitration, deposit and stage-payment protection (up to £100,000), and bundled IBG (Insurance-Backed Guarantee). HIES is owned by Easy MCS and dominates the heat pump and solar PV installer market in 2026.

For homeowners, HIES membership of your installer means: 24-month complaint window after install, free arbitration if a dispute arises, and your deposit is insured if the installer fails before delivery. CCS is HIES-registered. See our accreditations page.
