Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG)
A third-party insurance policy that honours an installer's workmanship guarantee if the installer ceases to trade.
An Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG) is a separate insurance policy taken out at the time of installation that honours the installer's workmanship warranty (typically 2-10 years) if the installer goes out of business. It is mandatory for MCS-certified installations claiming BUS, SEG, ECO4 or other government schemes.
Common providers in Cornwall include QANW, IWA, GCSE, Glow Green Insurance and HIES (which combines IBG with consumer code membership). The premium is typically £30-100 per installation, paid by the installer and included in the quote price.
For homeowners, the IBG matters when an installer is small or relatively new — even well-run companies can fail and you want assurance the warranty has substance. CCS provides a 12-year IBG via QANW on all renewable installs. See our guarantees page.
