Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
The UK government grant offering £7,500 toward an air or ground source heat pump installation in England and Wales, running until March 2028.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides a flat £7,500 grant for ASHP and GSHP installations in England and Wales. The grant amount was raised from £5,000 in October 2023 and the scheme has been confirmed funded through March 2028.
Eligibility is broad: any owner-occupied or privately-rented home or small commercial property with a valid EPC (no minimum band, since the loft and cavity insulation requirement was scrapped in 2024). Exclusions are limited to new-builds (with a small self-build exemption), social housing, and properties replacing biomass.
The grant is paid directly to the installer, who deducts it from your invoice. CCS handles the entire Ofgem application — you sign a consent form and we do the rest. Approval typically takes 2-4 weeks. Combined with 0% VAT on heat pump installations until March 2027, a typical 8kW Vaillant install in Cornwall comes out around £8,500-11,000 after grant, versus £16,000-18,500 before.
