RECC
Renewable Energy Consumer Code — the alternative consumer protection body to HIES, sponsored by RenewableUK and approved by the Trading Standards Institute.
RECC (Renewable Energy Consumer Code) is the alternative consumer protection body to HIES. It is sponsored by RenewableUK and approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute under the Approved Code Scheme.
RECC provides similar protections to HIES: pre-contract information, complaints procedure, arbitration via the Renewable Energy Assurance Limited scheme, and deposit/stage payment protection. The two codes are largely interchangeable from a consumer perspective; many MCS installers belong to one or the other.
Either code is acceptable for MCS certification and BUS grant eligibility. The choice is essentially about which complaints scheme you would prefer in the rare event of a dispute. See our accreditations page.
